Sphinx Competition for young Black and Latino string players brings together the top young artists of color to compete for cash, prizes, scholarships, and performances with more than 30 of America's top orchestras.
Sphinx Stars is a city-wide talent show-style competition that features young people, under age 18. The program highlights the talent and accomplishments of young musicians and provides high-visibility recognition of the effort and dedication students put into music, and the important role it plays in youth development. Sphinx Stars will provide an in-depth musical experience and the winners will go on to receive a cash prize, scholarships, mentoring, and will perform community concerts and outreach. SphinxCon is a national convening around the issues of diversity in the performing arts. Held in Detroit during the annual Sphinx Competition, SphinxCon will bring together leaders from all disciplines of the performing arts to share ideas, challenges, successes, and lessons learned in pursuit of increased diversity in all aspects of the performing arts sector. Sphinx Virtuosi National Tour features alumni of the Sphinx Competition. This dynamic, conductorless ensemble reaches nearly 20,000 live audiences, in addition to school and community outreach. Anchor stops in the tour include the New World Center in Miami, the Harris Theater in Chicago, and the renowned Carnegie Hall.
