Dr. Sheena Gutierrez is an influential arts administrator and visionary who plays a crucial role in advancing discussions and initiatives related to diversity in classical music.
As Manager of Communications and Individual Giving, Sheena oversees Sphinx's year-round communications and social media initiatives. Her duties entail collaborating with various teams to develop and implement strategic plans for enhancing the organization's online presence. She also plays a crucial role in supporting Sphinx's individual giving efforts, which include cultivating relationships with donors. Her contributions are instrumental to the organization's continued success in achieving its fundraising objectives.
Sheena Gutierrez's love for education is profound and unwavering. Being an enthusiastic educator, she finds great joy in inspiring and empowering her students to discover and develop their potential. With her dedication and passion for teaching violin, she plays an instrumental role in shaping the future of the next generation, helping to create a better and brighter world for all. By instilling a love for learning, Sheena contributes to the growth and development of individuals and communities.
Sheena has performed across the United States and Europe, such as Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, KKL Luzern Concert Hall (Switzerland), Salle Pleyel (Paris), and König Albert Theater (Germany). As a European Union Youth Orchestra member, she performed in festivals such as the Young Euro Classic, Rheingau Music Festival, Bolzano Festival Bozen, Stresa Festival, Ravello Festival, and Edinburgh International Festival, among others.
Sheena earned her Bachelor of Music degree under the guidance of Rictor Noren. She continued her studies with Charles Castleman at the University of Miami, earning a Master of Music Degree and a Doctor of Musical Arts in 2021. Her dissertation, "Gender Bias Among the Big Five Orchestras - As Illustrated in Hiring Practices of Women Instrumentalists," was approved by world-renowned committee members: Charles Castleman, Jennifer Grim, Valerie Coleman, and Gerard Schwarz.
Beyond her many accomplishments, what truly sets Sheena apart is her unwavering passion and dedication to her craft, whether as an educator, violinist, or arts administrator. Her ability to inspire and empower others is a testament to her exceptional talent and leadership. With her husband and beloved 110-pound yellow lab by her side, Sheena resides in Miami and continues to make an indelible mark on the world of classical music and beyond.
