Edino Krieger

Brazilian composer, born March 17, 1928.


Born in Brusque (Santa Catarina, Brazil), Edino Krieger started to learn violin at an early age, studying the instrument with Edith Reis in Rio de Janeiro during the 1940s. At the same time, Krieger studied composition with Koellreutter. Abroad, he studied composition with Copland and Mennin, and violin at the Henry Street Settlement School.

Also known as a broadcaster, music critic, and conductor, Krieger's works are widely performed in Brazil as well as abroad. He won the Koellreutter's Música Viva prize in 1945 and the Berkshire Music Center competition for Latin American composers in 1848.
