Gonzalo Castillo Ponce
Mexican composer and teacher, born April 25, 1955.
Born in Mexico City, Mexico, Gonzalo Castillo Ponce first studied music at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música. Castillo later continued his studies at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Moscow, Russia, and at the Conservatory of Odessa, Ukraine. His teachers include: Igor Assiev, Cristián Caballero, and Constantin Botashiof. Castillo earned a Ph.D. in Arts Sciences at the Instituto Superior de Arte in La Habana, Cuba.
He is currently on staff at the Escuela Nacional de Música of the UNAM; he has also taught at the University Regiomontana and la Universidad Autónoma of Coahuila, as well as at universities in Monterrey, Coahuila, and Zacatecas.
