Argentinian composer and pianist born May 21, 1940.
Argentinian composer and pianist Graciela Castillo was born on May 21st, 1940, in Córdoba. She studied piano in the Conservatorio Provincial de Música Félix T. Garzón in Córdoba, composition with Nicolás Alessio, and electroacoustic media with César Franchisena and Francisco Krӧpfl; she also studied music at the University de Córdoba and the Universidad del Litoral. Castillo performed 20th-century Argentine works both as a solo pianist and in a piano duo in the 1960s. During this period, she also helped found the Centro de Música Experimental at the University de Córdoba, where she later became a teacher of composition and musical analysis. Castillo is also a founding member of the Córdoba Composers’ Association, the Córdoba Argentine Federation of Electro-Acoustic Music, and the Agrupación Nueva Música of Córdoba. A pioneer of electro-acoustic music, Castillo’s music has been performed widely in Argentina and abroad.
