Guilherme Bauer
Brazilian composer, born July 1940.
Guilherme Carneiro da Cunha Bauer was born in Rio de Janeiro. He studied violin with Iolanda Peixoto and Oscar Borgerth, and composition and music theory with Cláudio Santoro, Esther Scliar, and Guerra-Peixe.
He played with the Orquestra Sinfônica Nacional da Rádio MEC, organized the group Ars Contemporânea in 1977, and helped to create the RioArte Digital label, responsible for commissioning and premiering more than 30 works written by Brazilian composers. Bauer has taught composition in universities from Brazil and abroad, along with winning 8 awards for his compositions.
