Luis Taibo García

Mexican composer, born April 29, 1877, died April 17, 1954.


Luis Taibo García was born on April 29, 1877, in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Not only was he a talented and passionate musician, but he also studied medicine at the Universidad de Santiago, managing student street bands and researching folk music in Galicia simultaneously. He went on to publish multiple works exploring and criticizing the intersection of folklore in music. He wrote and published a variety of musical works for ensembles of varying sizes. His repertoire includes choral and orchestral works, mixed chamber ensembles, and solo vocalists/instrumentalists with piano. 

He moved to Mexico City, Mexico in 1908, continuing careers in both medicine and music. His compositions gained popularity both in Spain and throughout Latin America.
