Maury Buchala
Brazilian composer, born March 3, 1967.
Born in São José do Rio Preto, the composer, pianist and conductor Maury Buchala graduated from the University of São Paulo before going to Europe, where he studied composition and conducting. The composer attended seminars and courses led by Murail, Ferneyhough, Boulez, and others, at the IRCAM and Centre Acanthes.
Bachala’s instrumental music explores textures based on electronic sounds, and it is known for being structurally dense and virtuosic, yet carefully organized. His pieces were played in Brazil and Europe and he led orchestras and small ensembles in numerous countries. He is also the founder of the ensemble Camera Linea.
