Mexican composer and bassist, born September 18, 1951.
Born in Condesa, Mexico City, Mexico, Roberto Aymes is an important figure who has helped shape jazz music in Mexico and around the world. Not only is he a virtuosic bassist and composer, but his works have been performed under conductors such as Eduardo Diazmunoz, Enrique Batiz, and Akira Endo, and he has been commissioned numerous times to compose symphonic works. Aymes has represented Mexico in festivals and recitals in the United States and Canada. Alongside his pedagogical work, Aymes is the founder of the first and only jazz record label (Jazzcat Records) in Mexico and is the producer of Jazz Panorama, a radio show that discusses the past, present, and future of jazz. Additionally, he has written several different publications and explores different interpretations of classical composers.
