Salvador Carballeda González

Mexican composer and conductor, born December 13, 1939, died January 24, 2012.


Salvador Carballeda González was born in Mexico City, Mexico. He studied composition, orchestral conducting, and violin at the Escuela Superior Nocturna de Música y Bellas Artes, where he worked with Salvador Contreras. He continued his studies with René Deffosez both in Mexico as well as in Belgium. Carballeda made his professional debut  in 1975 conducting the Orchestra of the Ópera de Bellas Artes. 

He worked as a conductor with the Banda Sinfónica de la Delegación Cuauhtémoc and the Orquesta Sinfónica del Instituto Politécnico Nacional, among others. He was the founder of the Asociación Mexicana de Orquesta Sinfónicas (1991) and the Cuarteto Barroco Terpsícore. Additionally, Carballeda also was the first member and director of the Sociedad Mexicana de Flauta Barroca as well as the Liga de Compositores de Música de Concierto. Carballeda received numerous awards, such as the Juan Ruíz de Alarcón medal and an Honorable Mention from the Instituto Departamental de Cultura de la ciudad de Trujillo, Perú.
