Director of Programs and Education | Harmony Project

Carmen is dedicated to elevating underrepresented communities through the arts. With over 15 years as an educator and impactful contributions during her tenure as Programs Manager at Pacific Symphony, her passion for championing underrepresented communities resonates through her work. 

Currently, Carmen is the Director of Programs and Education for Harmony Project in Los Angeles. Harmony Project provides high quality music education to the underserved communities of Los Angeles through a holistic approach. 

During her tenure at Pacific Symphony, she spearheaded successful partnerships with The Boys and Girls Club of Santa Ana, Santa Ana High School, and Savanna School District, and was the lead Instructor for Santa Ana Strings. At SVSD, Carmen initiated Savanna Strings, a free after school violin program, serving communities of Orange County. 

Carmen is currently a Fellow of Sphinx LEAD Cohort 5 (Leaders in Excellence, Arts & Diversity) a prestigious 2-year leadership program designed to evolve the industry landscape by empowering the next generation of executive leaders. Black and Latinx arts leaders participate in a leadership curriculum including mentorship, access to a network of influential industry professionals, and leadership retreats at top institutions nationwide, including Juilliard and The Metropolitan Opera. 

Carmen earned a Master of Music from Cal State Long Beach and has participated in masterclasses with world renowned violinists such as: James Buswell, Talich Quartet and Maestro Alvaro de Granda.
