Daniel Acosta
Director of Marketing | Austin Opera
Daniel Acosta (he/him) is an experienced arts administrator with a diverse background in varied ticketing, development, and marketing roles. His passion for music, marketing, and a deep understanding of the inner workings within performing arts organizations has led to cross-departmental collaborations and success throughout his career.
Mr. Acosta currently serves as Director of Marketing for Austin Opera. He hopes to contribute to the redefining of what the classical music experience can and should be through approachable and customer-centric marketing.
Previously, Mr. Acosta served as Director of Marketing for the Philharmonic Society of Orange County in Irvine, California, where he oversaw marketing strategies, campaigns, sales, and marketing communications. Prior to his tenure in California, he was a member of The Dallas Opera’s Advancement Team where he held the position of Advertising and Sales Manager. During his time, the organization saw a growth in ticket sales, revenue, audience attendance, and the successful launches of new institutional initiatives such as a digital streaming platform and creating exclusive marketing campaigns for Latinx communities in the DFW area. During his time at The Dallas Opera, he was a member of the Company Culture Cohort and The Equity and Belonging Book Club where he collaborated with other members to bring attention to systemic problems in the office and advocated to create a more equitable workplace for company staff. This work also included working on audience centered policies with the goal of creating a welcoming experience for patrons, their interactions with one another, and staff in all performance spaces.
Using past experiences as inspiration for change, Mr. Acosta has begun the important journey of introducing and implementing DEIA work to his marketing efforts with the goal of making the arts accessible to everyone in all communities. In August of 2022, Daniel co-presented a session, “Applying Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility to Your Marketing and Communication Strategies” at the Tessitura Learning & Community Conference in Denver, Colorado. He has also presented for the Tom O’Conner Consulting Group and a webinar for Tessitura’s DEIA Learning Series.
Mr. Acosta also serves as a mentor for Tessitura’s Career Accelerator Program. A professional development program with the long-term goal of increasing racial and ethnic diversity in the workforce.
He has held past positions with Fort Worth Symphony and Dallas Symphony Orchestras. His passions include traveling and outdoor activities, cooking, photography, and listening to an array of music.
