NAAS FINANCIAL SUPPORT

The National Alliance for Audition Support (NAAS) provides individualized, long-term support to orchestral musicians, identifying their unique needs and working in partnership with them over time with a shared end goal of orchestral placement. NAAS aims to address the systemic lack of access and representation in Black and Latino communities. NAAS Financial Support directly supports resources and logistical needs for musicians and conductors pursuing careers in orchestral performance.

AUDITION GRANT

Funding to support auditioning for NAAS Orchestra Partners and/or orchestras with membership in the League of American Orchestras. Awards will typically not exceed $2,000 per audition and may only cover travel, hotel/accommodations, training, & incidentals.

SUBSTITUTE MUSICIAN GRANT

Funding to support short-term playing opportunities for NAAS Orchestra Partners and/or orchestras with membership in the League of American Orchestras. Awards will typically not exceed $2,000 per award and may only cover:

TRAVEL: Domestic U.S. travel costs incurred in connection with travel to substitute with an orchestra, but not limited to airfare (including cello or other large instrument if applicable), train fare, bus fare, gas, mileage, or transportation of a large instrument or equipment.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS/LODGING: housing costs incurred as a result of participating in a substitute opportunity.

INCIDENTALS: A $25 per-diem can be requested to supplement costs for ground-transportation, food, and other incidental expenses.

INSTRUMENT GRANT

As a general rule, the NAAS does not award instrument purchase grants. The NAAS will consider instrument repair and occasional rental of equipment (e.g. mouthpiece, cleaning, case, etc). In exceptional cases, NAAS may be able to assist with instrument loan opportunities, resources permitting.
